چکیده

Intelligent control isan attempt tospecify the function of a controller in ways which mimic the decision-making capabilities of humans. Traditionally, issues relating to the emulation of human-like capabilities have fallen in thedomain of avtificial intelligence. Intelligent processing is a specific form of intelligent control in which thesystem to be controlled is a process rafher than the more conventional mechanical or electrical system. The National lnstitute of Standards and Technology's program on intelligent processing of metal powders is a multi-disciplinary research initiative investigating the application of intelligent control technologies to improve thestateof theart of metal powder manufacturing. This paper reviews the design of the institute's supersonic inert-gas metal-atomizer control system.

MODELING OF RAPID SOLIDIFICATION PROCESS IN THE GAS ATOMIZATION OF MOLTEN METALS

In the present work, a model was proposed to predict the thermal history during rapid solidification (RS) of metal droplets in the gas atomization process. The classical theory of heterogeneous nucleation was based on Newtonian heat flow and enthalpy method. Solving the governing numerical equations by the finite difference method (FDM) gave up the opportunity of analyzing the temperature-time ...

Development of Al-Ti-N Composite Coatings on Commercially Pure Ti Surface by Tungsten Inert Gas Process

The present work aims to modify surface properties of pure Ti by development of Ti-Al-N intermetallic composite coatings. In this regard, tungsten inert gas (TIG) cladding process was carried out using Al 1100 as filler rod with Ar and Ar+N2 as shielding gases. Phase and structure of the samples were investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD) technique, optical microscopy (OM) and scanning electro...

Welding of 304L Stainless Steel with Activated Tungsten Inert Gas Process (A-TIG)

Gas tungsten arc welding is a popular process in those applications requiring a high degree of quality and accuracy. However, this process has a big disadvantage against the substantially high productivity welding procedures. Hence, many efforts have been made to improve its productivity. One of these efforts is the use of activating flux (A-TIG welding). In this study, the performance of A-TIG...

Structure-property Interaction in Flux Assisted Tungsten Inert Gas Welding of Austenitic Stainless Steel

Austenitic stainless steel SS304 grade was welded with active Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) welding process by applying a flux paste made of SiO2 powder and acetone. SiO2 flux application improves the weld bead depth with a simultaneous reduction in weld bead width. The improvement in penetration results from arc constriction and reversal of Marangoni convection. Experimental studies revealed that t...
